Memorizing scripture from the Bible By Chris Esty There are several reasons why it is important to memorize scripture from the Bible. They are as follows: a. When you are confronted with temptation it is good to have scripture memorized that deals with God's promises. Such scripture serves to encourage people not to move away from God, but to continue to trust in Him as He knows what's best for us and will see to it that our needs are met (Matt. 4:1-11). b. When people ask questions about your faith you can give biblical answers to their questions, which is always a good thing because there is no better resource to use than the Bible when sharing our faith in Jesus Christ (2Pt. 3:15; 2Tim. 3:16-17). c. When people are discouraged we can share scripture with them that we've memorized to offer them a sense of hope and to encourage faith in Jesus Christ (Rom. 15:4; Rom. 10:17). I encourage you to spend time memorizing scripture. By doing this your faith in Jesus Christ will grow more and more, as will also your knowledge of God!
